Robert Kam Chong Young
Bio
Robert Kam Chong Young was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on April 8, 1929. Before graduating from McKinley High School in 1949, he served in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Cadet Captain with the responsibility of overseeing eighty JROTC cadets. After high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and began training as a heavy equipment operator, which he never completed because he was reassigned to the infantry and sent to Korea. During his service in the Korean War, he participated in the Incheon Landing. Later in the war, he was injured by Chinese mortar fire and received the Purple Heart for his injuries. Before being injured, he was responsible for the capture of three Chinese POWs near the Yalu River.
