Victor Spaulding (78) was born in Erieville, NY. He was living at home and working as an arc welder at Carrier Air Conditioning Company when he was drafted. His military service lasted from 1952 to October 1960. During his service period, he went to Inchon and was stationed at the Punch Bowl Rim area in North Korea from May 1953 to March 1954. He served in the 40th Division, Able Company, 223rd Regiment, 3rd Platoon as a Staff Sergeant before his discharge. He was a Barman, Assistant Squadron Leader, Squadron Leader, Assistant Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Regiment Officers ROTC Training Group Fort Devens, MA. Spaulding participated in the June 1953 battle on the Punch Bowl and in the last four days of conflict on Heartbreak Ridge. He received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, UN Service Medal, 1 Overseas Bar, an honor for Fired expert with M-1 Rifle, Good Conduct Medal, New York Service Cross, Korean War Service Medal and Medallion for his commitments. After he returned to the United States, he went to Fort Devens, MA Company A 278th RCT to train ROTC college boys. He returned to Carrier Air Conditioning Co. after being discharged from military service.
