Richard Vaughn (84) was born in St. Elmo, IL. He was working at a grocery store in Salem, IL when he was drafted at St. Louis, MO and sent to Ft. Leonard Wood. In June 1951, he arrived in Pusan and was then stationed at Chuncheon in HQ and HQ Company 7th Infantry Division as a S/Sgt. He served in 2 campaigns, and received a National Korean SVC, 2 UN Korean Service medals, ROK Korean War SVC, Overseas SVC, National Defense SVC, 50th Anniversary Commemorative, and 60th Anniversary ROK Commemorative. After returning home from his rotation in 1952, he was assigned to Ft. Hood, TX and participated in an atom bomb test at Camp Desert Rock, NV in May 25, 1952. Upon his discharge in September 1952, he went to work for Texas Electric Service Company, where he worked until 1998 doing various jobs ranging from meter reader to payroll and personnel. Now, his hobbies include woodworking and he belongs to KWVA Chapter 215, Fort Worth, TX.
