Joseph De Palma (81) was born in Italy, and arrived in America when he was very young. He was working in a textile mill in Fair Lawn, NJ, before entering the military. His military service was carried out from May 1951 to February 1953. During his service period, he went to Inchon, Korea, and was stationed all along the 38th parallel in the Euijeongbu area from November 1951 to December 1952. He served in the 3rd Infantry Division, 703rd Ord. Company, as a Private First Class before his discharge. He was a tank mechanic, and participated in the Iron Triangle. He received the Korean Service Award, American Defense Award, and the Korean Service Citation for his commitments. After returning to United States, he was in Ready Research for 5 years, and then worked for TWA for 40 years. His most memorable experience from the war was the clearing of people from the DMZ in 1951, which was a one-day operation. He received no wounds during the war. His hobbies include using his machine shop at home.
