Charles Smith (85) was born near Burnet, TX, and was working as the owner of Texas Corporation before entering the military in 1952 at Ft. Sam in Houston. His service was carried out from 1952 to July 1960. During his service period, he went first to Sasebo, Japan and then to Pusan, Korea, where he was stationed on the MLR. His Unit was the COM 224 RGT, 40th Division. He played a role in the MLR campaign of 1952-52 and the Punch Bowl Left Line in 1953. His specialty was heavy weapons and serving as a forward observer. He served as a Sergeant at the time of his discharge. For his commitments, he received CIBs (all Korean-issued). After leaving Korea in July 1953 he worked in construction, and upon being discharged in July 1960 he worked in construction sales. Now, he enjoys gardening and helping veterans with claims.
