Fermin Cantu (60) was born in Lubbock, Texas on November 13, 1954. He was working in Lubbock when he decided to enlist into the Unites States Army in December of 1972. Cantu arrived in Seoul, Korea in 1974 and was stationed in Pyeongtaek (K-6). Cantu belonged to 1/72 Nike Herk Unit as a SD/4 (later retiring Sergent First Class/E-7). His specialty was in infantry, communications, and food services. In 1976 he departed from Korea and later took part in Desert Storm. Cantu received the Service in Southwest Asia (901205-910510) Award, the Marksman Badge Rifle Award, the National Southwest Asia Service Medal with one star, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Arcom Medal. On February 1, 1993 Cantu was discharged from the military. Upon returning home from the war, he continued working as a correctional officer. Today, he enjoys fishing and participating in his local KWVA chapter in Killeen, Tx. (Don C Faith, Chapter 222).
