Dottie Harris was (83) was born in Verona, Pennsylvania. She was living with her grandparents and working as a cashier at Krogers when she decided to enlist into the Unites States Air Force on January 31, 1951 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Harris was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco, Texas in May of 1951. Before she was discharged in July of 1952 she served as an Airman 1st Class (Sgt.) with the 3565 WAF Sq. JCAFB. She specialized as an officer in personnel Flying Training Air Force (Fly TAF). Harris received the National Defence honor before she was discharged. After returning home she went on to attend college, get married and has four children. Today, Dottie enjoys reading, writing, and cooking. She is also an active member of her local KWVA chapter in Grand Prairie, Tx. (Walton H. Walker, 215). Harris stated that being the first WAF stationed at JCAFB led her to become more self-confident and self-reliant.
