Vartkess Tarbassian (81) was born in Boston, MA, and had been working as a sheet metal worker there until he was drafted in November 1952. He arrived in Pusan in January of 1954, and was stationed in the Chorwon Area, also known as the Iron Triangle, as a part of the 2nd infantry, 23rd infantry regiment. He was a PVT 2, and monitored the DMZ as a radio operator originally, then later as a DMZ outpost in the I+R platoon. He received the Good Conduct, UN, Korean Campaign, Korean Defense, National Defense, and Korean War medals for his commitments. He remembers Sergeant Kim (ROKA), Paul Szajna, Anthony Perrota, and Perry Wong. He departed from Korea in October of 1954, and was discharged the next month. After his return and discharge, he attended radio repair school and became an electronic technician. His hobbies now include stamp and coin collecting as well as woodworking.
