John Blankenship (83) was born in Asun, Kentucky, and had been attending college before he enlisted in 1950. He arrived in Pusan in July of 1951, and was stationed at the Campo Air force base near Seoul as a part of the 12th tackle recon unit, 8th bomb squad, 3rd bomb group. He was a 2nd lieutenant and was promoted to 1st lieutenant by the time of his discharge. Participating in 87 missions as an air force pilot, John remained in Korea until 1952. After he returned to the US, he was a part of the federal aviation administration as a pilot until his discharge in 1970. After his discharge, he was a check airman pilot. Currently, golf is one of his hobbies.
